On June 24, 2021 after a long day of driving we pulled into Palisades RV Park in Irwin Idaho and was greeted by the owner Naoma. The park is fairly small, but very well maintained and friendly. Camping sites back up to one another with ample space both in front and behind your RV. Full services are provided (30 amp) and good water pressure. Barbecue grills, both gas and charcoal are provided for your use as well as a bath house and laundry. Package and mail service is also available. The park also boasts several small log cabins for those without RVs. Behind the park is a short path that leads across the meadow and through the woods to the swiftly moving Snake River.
While in Irwin, we drove into Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park. Some of the sights we saw included the Antler Arches in Jackson that Dave remembered from childhood. The town was very busy as most tourist spots are. We had hoped to have dinner there, but didn’t realize we would need reservations and were out of luck. So, if you go, be sure to make reservations for dinner if you intend to eat at one of Jackson’s many restaurants.
As we drove into the Tetons, we saw the Three Glaciers, many beautiful lakes, streams and forest. Jackson Lake, one of the largest high elevation lakes, is a remnant of a past glacier and partially fed by the Snake River. It measures over 25,000 acres. Boats are only allowed in portions of the lake at low speed. We hoped to see some wildlife, but only saw buffalo, geese and a few ducks.
If you like to hike there are many areas for that. The only one we did was Jenny Lake and Schwabacher’s Landing. Both we highly recommend.
We also saw the Snake River Falls and ventured over to Idaho Falls for shopping. Grand Tetons National Park and the Snake River area are beautiful parts of our country and it is easy to see why people fall in love with the beauty. Here are a few more pictures we took of the Snake River Falls and other areas around Grand Teton NP and Irwin Idaho. We hope you enjoy.
Oh! One last thing. If you plan on going to more than one National Park, get an annual pass. At $80 it will pay for itself with three park visits. It will also entitle you to some discounts. Go here National Park Pass to see the different passes offered and purchase online.
